NewsAgent AI — Privacy Policy

NewsAgent AI ("the app", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights. It is written to comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

We collect only what the app needs to function. Location and contacts are strictly opt-in.
3. Your contacts never leave your device (APP 3, APP 11)
If you choose to find friends, phone numbers and emails are converted into one-way SHA-256 hashes on your device. Only those hashes are checked against our database. Your raw contacts are never uploaded or stored.
4. Persona vs Shadow (APP 6)
Your shadow (anonymous) identity is never linked to your persona (public) identity in anything other users can see. There is no query another user can run that connects the two.
5. Your interest signals are private (APP 11)
Your "Interested", "Not Interested", likes, and saves are used only to personalise your own feed. They are never visible to other users, your friends, advertisers, or third parties.
6. How we use your data (APP 6)
To operate and personalise the app.
We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
We do not use your data for cross-app tracking or advertising profiles.
7. Storage and cross-border transfer (APP 8)
Your data is stored using Supabase infrastructure, which may be located outside Australia. By using the app you consent to this transfer. We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your data consistently with the APPs.
8. Security (APP 11)
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Access to your data is restricted by row-level security so that you — and only you — can read your private records.
9. Your rights (APP 12, APP 13)
You may at any time:
Access the personal information we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate information.
Delete your account and associated data.
Complain about how we handle your data.

11. Children
The app is not directed at children under 12. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 12.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified in-app. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version.
