Melbourne doesn't reward average marketing. It's Australia's most contested market. Plan accordingly.

The Market

Where Melbourne stands

Greater Melbourne is home to more than 5.35 million people and added over 140,000 residents in a single year: the largest population increase of any Australian city. The City of Melbourne alone generates a Gross Regional Product approaching $130 billion, and Professional, Scientific and Technical Services businesses account for 21.4% of all registered businesses in the municipality, nearly double the Victorian average of 12.6%.

Victoria added over 16,000 net new businesses in 2024/25, and that growth is concentrated in exactly the sectors competing hardest for digital attention: professional services, retail, and hospitality. Melbourne's CBD is in the middle of a genuine retail resurgence. Foot traffic on Bourke Street Mall was up nearly 40% through 2025, and evening foot traffic after 6pm climbed 35% as the city's night-time economy rebuilt itself. That's a market moving fast in a specific direction, not a flat one.

Ad Astra Marketing is headquartered in Adelaide and operates directly in Melbourne, which means we bring an outside-in read of the market backed by hands-on delivery, not a fly-in franchise model, and not a single-city echo chamber either.
