The Market
Where Brisbane stands
Brisbane's economy passed $201 billion in 2024 (a $28 billion, 16% increase in just four years), with employment up by 274,000 people over the same period, growth driven in part by the historic infrastructure build-out ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Brisbane City Council counted almost 146,000 registered businesses in the LGA in 2024/25, generating $188.45 billion in gross regional product, up 3.0% year-on-year and equal to more than a third of Queensland's entire gross state product.
That growth isn't confined to the CBD. South-East Queensland is now growing faster than the national population average, on track to reach roughly 4.5 million people by the time the Games open in 2032, with more than half of that growth landing outside Brisbane's city limits: in the Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast. For Brisbane-based and Brisbane-serving businesses, that means the addressable market is regional as much as it is metro, and competitors are increasingly drawing customers from right across the corridor rather than a single postcode.
The city's experience economy (tourism, events and entertainment) has grown 30% since 2020, the fastest of any Australian capital, and a pipeline of more than $100 billion in major projects, including Cross River Rail and the Brisbane Airport expansion, is reshaping how people move through and spend in the city. A marketing strategy built for pre-2020 Brisbane is being outpaced by a city that is visibly, measurably different than it was five years ago.
